In 1997, a story about a magical world came into life and startled the whole world. The tale of a young boy with a scar and his destiny to fight the cruellest wizard is not all the series is about. The Harry Potter Series has given millions of people a way to escape reality and live in magic. It is no longer just books and movies, but it also has given birth to a vast community who identify themselves as part of this magical realism. Being a part of the Houses at Hogwarts is one such identification – Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin.
Bollywood is another pseudo world that exists in our reality and helps us escape. Today we combine the two and make magic. Just imagine if Bollywood were to be a class at Hogwarts and it is the Sorting Ceremony in the main hall, who will land up where? Let’s find out.
Gryffindor – Smart, brave and daring
Rani Padmavati (Padmaavat)
She is the most beautiful woman in the hall. Her beauty was all everyone talked about, but the hat saw her strength. She fought for her husband, her honour, her respect and her people. She was brave and, the Sorting Hat knew it.
Bhuvan (Lagaan)
In a jacket and dhoti, he arrives. He took charge of the team filled with underdogs to fight against the oppressors. This strong-willed man may not be the most intelligent but was the smartest of the bunch.
Kabir Khan (Chak De! India)
He walked in with a hockey stick instead of the magic broom. He has seen failure and despair, but against all odds, he rose again like a Phoenix. He was smart and stern, which made him the perfect fit for the house.
Bajirao Singham (Singham)
A no-bullshit cop who drives like he is riding the magical broom. He’s strong and brave, always ready to take on bad guys and serve justice. His courage reminded the Sorting Hat of Lily Potter who sacrificed herself for her son.
Veera Tripathi (Highway)
She is an uptown Delhi girl who was kidnapped by a couple of truck drivers. Her courage helped her in dealing with this traumatic experience. The hat was sure that she will become a great witch in Gryffindor.
Hufflepuff – Loyal, patient and unafraid
Jhilmil (Barfi)
She is a sweet, innocent and a loyal companion. She cares for the people around her but is not afraid to bring forward her thoughts about anyone or anything. The Sorting Hat seemed happy to see such a soul as a part of the Hufflepuff house.
Pappi (Tanu weds Manu)
He is an ear and a shoulder for his friends. He makes people around him roll on the floor with laughter. He is patient in finding honest relationships. His loyalty towards his friends and family makes him a great Hufflepuff.
Choocha (Fukrey)
A dreamer, he is. He is fun-loving and a loyal friend. He is willing to go to any length for his friends. He may not be the brightest wizard, but he has a heart of gold that makes him a unique individual.
Param Bhaiya (MS Dhoni)
A model Hufflepuff is loyal and patient, and these qualities are well represented in this friend of MS Dhoni. He goes out of his way to help his friend achieve his goals and move forward in his career.
MC Sher (Gully boy)
The struggling rapper may not seem like a Hufflepuff. However, his support for his friends will change that perception. He never stops hustling to provide for his family. A fun soul looking to have a good time with a heart of gold is, for sure, a part of the yellow and black house.
Ravenclaw – Intelligent, wise and witty
Virusahastra Buddhe (3 Idiots)
The super-intelligent dean of a prestigious engineering college of India is the quintessential Ravenclaw. He is unapologetic about his behaviour and opinions. He works hard to ensure that he is the smartest person in the room.
Safeena (Gully Boy)
She is a Mumbai girl who knows what she wants. She is fierce and bold and unafraid of society. She is super smart and dedicated to academics. Her zeal to get what she deserves is inspirational. No wonder, she is a Ravenclaw.
Aakash Saraf (Andhadun)
The blind pianist who leaves everyone stunned and confused about his disability. He is truly an artist who can play music and people flawlessly. A witty-intelligent individual with a hint of mystery sorted as a Ravenclaw is correct.
IG Meera Deshmukh (Drishyam)
She is a super-smart police officer who explores every possible angle in solving crimes. Her wisdom has allowed her to reach great heights in her career. She is undoubtedly a great successor of Filius Flitwick, the head of Ravenclaw.
Anand Kumar (Super 30)
As soon as the super-intelligent professor sat on the stool, the hat knew he only belonged to Ravenclaw. His intellectual powers and attention to detail will allow him to reach new heights of the magical craft.
Slytherin – Cunning, ambitious and resourceful
Kaya (Krishh 3)
A half-human and half-chameleon, Kaya is an ambitious individual who is willing to do almost anything to achieve her goals. Although she spent her entire life looking down at others, deep down, she is a better person than most others believe.
Gabbar Singh (Sholay)
He is the epitome of wicked in Bollywood. He is ambitious, resourceful and willing to do just about everything required to fulfil those dreams. The Sorting Hat has never been this sure about a Slytherin after Tom Riddle.
Kancha Cheena (Agneepath)
As the bald scary looking man walked through the corridor of the hall, everyone went quiet. He looked like he is entering the school to rule it. His ambitions were clear, and he had the power to achieve them. The Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft did not prepare for this mighty Slytherin.
Sardar Khan (Gangs of Wasseypur)
He has seen struggles throughout his life. He knows that it’s not easy to live in the world without money. But he is ambitious to find his place in society. This determination makes him a true Slytherin.
Don (Don 2)
A smart thief is an understatement for him. He is resourceful, clever and charming. He can understand what other people want and tap on that desire for his success. This charming individual will go to great heights as a Slytherin, the hat predicted.
Bollywood characters may be outcast at the Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft, but we accept them all. Stories within stories make reality magical.
